A Bottle that tells a story
The Leonardslee Family Vineyard label encapsulates the extraordinary journey of its owner, Penny Streeter OBE, from humble beginnings to creating a prestigious English sparkling wine. Once living in homeless accommodation, Penny's story is a modern-day Cinderella tale. The label, designed by local Sussex artist Will Parr, depicts a swallow which signifies Penny's migration between South Africa and England, emblematic of her resilience and determination.
Four smaller swallows on the label represent Penny's four children, emphasising the family's integral role in this venture.
A family affair
Leonardslee Family Vineyards is truly a family endeavour.
In 2016, the Streeter family acquired the historic Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens, undertaking the largest garden renovation seen in Europe in the last 30 years.
Their commitment to sustainability and restoration has revitalised the Grade 1 listed gardens, which are once again open to the public. Bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge from her wine estate, Benguela Cove, in South Africa, Penny decided to plant vineyards at Leonardslee, continuing the estate's 200-year tradition of horticultural excellence.
The dream team
Penny's vision was furthered by her strategic recruitment of Johann Fourie, one of South Africa's top winemakers, and South African viticulturist Barry Anderson.
This dynamic duo, along with the Leonardslee Family team, have brought their expertise and passion to the English countryside.
